In Jamaica, 32 people have lost their lives after Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm stronger than Katrina, ripped through the island. One third of the island was left without power, families unable to communicate with one another, and homes, hospitals and businesses destroyed. In Haiti, 34 people were killed in flooding, including 10 children. Another 18 people are missing. Hurricane Melissa is being called “the world’s strongest storm so far this year” by the National Hurricane Centre. 750,000 people in Cuba are now living in shelters, as homes are flooded and damaged.
ERDO has mobilized a response, expecting to bring emergency supplies to families in Jamaica and may respond in other countries, as we communicate with our partners.
PRAY for families left in the path of this devastating storm.
PRAY for churches seeking to respond in their communities while members themselves struggle with loss.
PRAY that together, the PAOC can alleviate some of the immediate suffering and work with our partners to rebuild some of what has been lost to the devastation.
