Joining 100 Years of Prayers for Musahar Dalit in India

Joining 100 Years of Prayers for Musahar Dalit in India

Twenty-five percent of India’s population (over 360 million) Dalit men, women and children face normalized prejudice, abuse and oppression every day. Dalits also comprise a higher proportion of prison inmates.

Musahar are a Dalit community in Bihar, India, often called “rat people” or “rat eaters” due to their history of trapping and consuming rats during lean periods. They are one of the most marginalized and disadvantaged groups in Bihar, experiencing extreme poverty and social stigma. Musahar are primarily landless agricultural labourers and face significant discrimination.

In 1930, Norwegians sent their first worker to this people group with several single women setting up a rehabilitation centre 25 years later. Schools, literacy centres health services and a church soon followed. Today, this work is led by national leaders and supported by many friends globally. Yet the reality of children sold into slavery is still prevalent.

PRAY the gospel work among the Musahar that has extended almost 100 years will break spiritual strongholds of poverty and greed that destroy lives.

PRAY the Musahar would see they can enjoy abundant life if they put their trust in Jesus Christ.

PRAY the national leaders of this work among the Musahar will have abundant provision, wisdom and favour with local authorities.
