Responding to the Cries for Help from Refugees

Responding to the Cries for Help from Refugees

PAOC Global Workers, Matthew & Amber, serve in Bangkok, Thailand among refugees in detention. This story and the prayer points help us to intercede for justice, grace and safety. Listen to the story as Matthew tells us.

Brother, they are surrounding the school, what do I do?” was the opening line of a phone call from an urban refugee. He had gone to meet his wife at the school where their child attended and as he approached, he saw immigration vehicles and officers encircling the building. I told him to hide. That the best thing he could do for his family was to make it home to their simple apartment. I promised that we would find a way to get his family back to him. He watched as his wife and child were loaded into an open-air, caged vehicle and driven away. His brokenness was fuelled by the knowledge that his family would end up in a detention centre. It took us almost three weeks to find them and post bail to get them out. Regular check-ins and reporting are now part of their lives with bail conditions but together is better than held in detention separately. Being in prison means you are not with the ones who know and love you.

PRAY protection for people who have been made even more vulnerable by having to flee their homes.

PRAY for Global Workers like Matthew and Amber walking alongside the oppressed, marginalized, and most vulnerable people in their communities.

PRAY for creativity and open doors for asylum seeker parents who try to provide their children with normalcy and opportunity.
