Wedged between two geopolitical giants, Nepal seeks to keep a balance between the two countries in its foreign policy—and thus to remain independent.
As a result of its years of geographic and political isolation, Nepal is one of the world's least developed nations. The large-scale migrations of Asian groups from Tibet and Indo-Aryan people from northern India, which accompanied the early settlement of Nepal, have produced a diverse linguistic, ethnic, and religious pattern.
