In Guatemala, where more than half the population lives below the poverty line, many children face significant barriers to education. Though schooling is often free, costs for uniforms, supplies, and fees place it out of reach for many families. Since most secondary schools require tuition, countless students are unable to continue beyond grade six.
For many years, Hector and Ruth have been serving faithfully to help change this reality. Since becoming directors of ChildCARE Plus Guatemala in 2010, the ministry has grown from caring for 182 children to serving 639 children in 17 locations across the country. Through partnerships with local church-based schools and families, they are helping provide educational opportunities while introducing children to the hope of Jesus Christ.
They also host short-term mission teams and minister regularly through teaching and preaching. After decades of pastoral ministry in Ontario and now many years in Guatemala, they continue to serve with passion and perseverance.
