Murray's Ride To Thrive

In one of the most remote regions of Africa, Turkana Kenya, access to life-saving medical care is being transformed. Through the faithful support of Canadians and the decades-long service of global worker Deborah Sirjoosingh, the Namoruputh Health Centre has become a vital source of hope for surrounding communities.

For years, one critical need remained—a fully equipped surgical theatre. Without it, patients requiring urgent care—including expectant mothers and injured children—were forced to travel hours over difficult terrain. In the past five years alone, more than 700 patients were referred elsewhere, and some did not survive the journey.

In 2025, that reality began to change.

Through Murray’s Ride to Thrive, in partnership with ERDO, the goal of $120,000 was not only met but exceeded, with over $139,000 raised. This remarkable outpouring of generosity made it possible to equip the surgical theatre with essential tools, including operating tables, surgical lighting, anesthesia machines, and critical care equipment.

Now, patients who once faced long and dangerous journeys can receive care closer to home. Families are no longer separated in moments of crisis, and lives are being saved because timely treatment is available within their own community.

In April 2025, this vision became a reality. Mission Global’s Executive Director, Murray Cornelius, and ERDO’s Cheif Executive Officer, Daniel Lepojarvi, attended the dedication of the new surgical wing at the Namoruputh Health Centre in Turkana, Kenya. Through Murray’s Ride to Thrive, over $200,000 was raised to fully equip the surgical theatre—surpassing the original goal and making this milestone possible.

The impact was immediate. In the first weekend following the dedication, doctors performed 44 eye surgeries—most removing cataracts—marking the first time this community has had access to surgical procedures of this kind.

This initiative builds on a legacy of compassion and faithfulness—one that continues to grow as local teams lead and sustain this life-giving work. What was once out of reach is now a reality, bringing healing, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
