Japan is home to 120 million people and remains one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. Many communities in Japan have little or no Christian presence and fewer than 1% of Japanese people identify as followers of Jesus.
Our primary focus will be partnering with local churches to strengthen their witness and expand their impact in their community. As Japan faces the challenges of an aging population and a declining birth rate, many churches are struggling to connect with younger generations. We desire to help bridge the gap between the aging church and the next generation by investing in relationships, discipleship, and community engagement. Additionally, we aim to empower local leaders to make a lasting impact in their own communities.
While Japan enjoys significant political freedom and openness, sharing the Gospel often requires patience and perseverance, as cultural traditions and social norms can create barriers to spiritual conversations. We are excited to serve alongside the Japanese church as God continues to work in this nation.
We are a couple who met while serving at a Christian camp in Ontario, Canada, and have been involved in camp ministry together for the past five years. Both of us graduated from Master’s College and Seminary with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion—I (Jesse) with a minor in accounting, and I (Maya) with a minor in Children and Adolescent Studies, along with TESL certification.
Together, we have spent a total of seven months serving in Mexico, gaining hands-on experience in cross-cultural missions. I (Maya) also completed six months of missional training with YWAM, during which I taught English in Cambodia. In addition, we both have experience leading youth groups, including preaching, mentoring, and organizing activities.
We are passionate about boldly sharing the Gospel and are eager to see God’s Kingdom come through our lives and ministry.
