The church in Latin America is over 612 million strong and has begun to send missionaries to other countries over the past 30 years. Nevertheless, being new to world missions, the Cuban church has been sending out their own missionaries only since 2015. They face a challenging road ahead to develop sustainable international outreach.
As a Canada-based worker, I currently work alongside five Cuban church leaders who are in turn training 27 approved candidates for missionary work. I also work with 15 Dominican Republic church leaders, to further develop their mission programs. I teach, translate, and interpret from English to Spanish the Light for the Nations program to equip these leaders for cross-cultural ministry.
I also seek to oversee and contextualize Global Works’ Business As Mission (BAM) programs to prepare Cuban and other Latino cross-cultural workers to go to restricted access nations.
Liz and I have served in the Latin American and Caribbean regions in various capacities since 2010. We have led a Spanish Bible college and have trained and led volunteer teams through NEXO International Ministries, a ministry we founded, to connect individuals with God’s mission. I have also served in lead and associate pastor roles in Spanish and English communities throughout the Greater Toronto Area and the Waterloo region. I have a Master of Divinity from MacMaster Divinity College, while Liz is working on her Master of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Seminary.
